Troubleshooting Coin Changer Acceptance Issues

Troubleshooting Coin Changer Acceptance Issues

Applies To

  • Coin changer / coin mechanism

Symptom

Coins intermittently drop through or are not accepted/counting correctly on a newly installed coin mechanism. The issue may appear during normal purchase testing after filling the coin tubes.

Likely Causes

  • Coin changer or coin mechanism may need a power cycle after installation or handling.
  • Coin mechanism placement may be affecting coin acceptance if the unit is tilted or not seated upright.
  • The coin return lever may be blocked or touched by the bezel, mounting hardware, or nearby components.
  • Handling the coin mechanism on its side or upside down while coins are in the tubes may cause performance issues.

Troubleshooting Steps

  1. Confirm the coin mechanism is mounted upright and is not tilted.
  2. Check that nothing is touching or holding the coin return lever.
  3. Power down the machine or coin mechanism, then power it back up.
  4. Test coin acceptance through the normal customer coin path.
  5. If coins are in the tubes, do not flip the coin mechanism upside down or lay it on its side.
  6. If the issue continues after the power cycle and placement checks, have support review whether the unit should be replaced.

Confirmed Resolution

After power cycling, the customer tested the mechanism again and confirmed that it counted the coin.
