Ice Maker Not Running alert
The Ice Maker Not Running alert triggers whenever MyVends detects that an ice maker has stopped producing ice despite demand. Depending on whether your machine is equipped with standard hardware inputs, the Advanced Monitoring Relays (IHA) or the BinLogic (Datawrx) controller, MyVends determines this state through different monitoring methods.
How This Alert Is Triggered
-
Compressor & Bin Full Inputs: MyVends monitors the relationship between bin level and compressor activity. If the bin level indicates the bin is not full, the compressor should be running. If the bin is calling for ice but no compressor input is detected, the alert fires.
-
Harvest Count vs. Vend Count: For machines utilizing harvest tracking, MyVends expects a completed harvest cycle after a set threshold of vends. If that threshold is reached without a harvest signal, the system flags the ice maker as inactive.
Adjustment Tip: You can configure the number of vends allowed before triggering this alert under Settings → Machines.
Supported Hardware Configurations
-
Standard Setups : Machines may monitor either the bin/compressor sensor inputs, the harvest counter, or both. These setups notify you that production has ceased, but further manual diagnosis at the machine is usually required.
-
IHA Advanced Controller Setups : Machines monitor the bin/compressor sensor inputs and the harvest counter. These setups notify you that production has ceased. Further manual diagnosis is assisted by indicators on the machine health page for Low Pressure, High Pressure and Oil Pressure trips to help a technician investigate the reported condition. Reset requirements depend on the installed safety device and controller; follow the matching service manual.
-
BinLogic-Equipped Machines: BinLogic integrates the full sensor suite, providing granular diagnostics directly in your alert notifications to help narrow the investigation using reported fault codes and sensor states. These indicators do not establish every possible mechanical cause.
Recommended Troubleshooting Steps
- Check for tripped safety cutouts (Low Pressure, High Pressure, or Oil Pressure): On machines with the IHA Advanced Controller or BinLogic, review the Machine Health dashboard to identify if a safety switch has opened. If a trip is indicated:
- Perform on-site inspection before resetting: Mechanical cutouts exist to protect the compressor from catastrophic failure (e.g., loss of lubrication, thermal overload, or extreme pressure imbalances).
- Follow the installed equipment service procedure: A qualified technician should investigate a safety trip before resetting it. Whether a cutout requires a physical reset depends on its model and configuration. Do not bypass a safety device or repeatedly restart equipment without correcting the cause.
- Check the physical bin level to ensure an ice bridge or mechanical blockage isn't falsely triggering a bin-full condition.
- Verify power to the ice maker head and inspect the control board for fault codes or tripped breakers.
-
Check the incoming water supply and water filters to ensure pressure hasn't dropped.
- If using harvest-based monitoring and ice production is normal, review your vend-count threshold in Settings → Machines to account for peak demand periods.
Timing and scheduled stops
For bin/compressor monitoring, the bin-full input must indicate demand and the compressor must remain off through five-minute settling checks before this condition triggers. Harvest-based monitoring uses the configured vend threshold instead.
An automatic scheduled stop can suppress this alert when Disable IM not running alert is enabled on that schedule. The option is off by default and does not apply to manual shutdowns. See scheduled-stop alert suppression.
