Modem Installation
To install the modem we shipped you first lets look in the box, along with the modem you'll also find an outdoor antenna, a power supply and a small stick antenna.
There may also be another stick antenna labelled 2.4Ghz use this only if you are going to be using a Wifi connection for the internet or for cameras.
Find a good spot to locate your modem. It needs to be a dry, cool location so inside an ice house we want to be in the control panel with all the electronics. The underside of the top of the cabinet is a good spot. Use the included alcohol wipes to clean the surface and attach the modem with the included Velcro. Mount it with the connectors facing left and right. Attach the stick antenna to the AUX port and the 2.4Ghz antenna to the 2.4GHz Port. Run the power adapter to a socket and plug it in.
The antenna is an outdoor antenna with a magnetic base which you want to place at the highest spot on the roof that the wire will reach. The best position for the antenna is upright. You may need to drill a hole for the wire to pass through into the machine or use an existing hole if available. If you must drill a hole don't drill it in the roof as this will cause leaks. Come in through the side. Drill a hole large enough for a piece of plastic pipe large enough for the antenna wire and plug to pass through. This will prevent the wire chafing on the metal edge. Drill another hole in the side of the panel and pass the wire through using the included grommet to protect the wire from the sharp edge.
Attach the outdoor antenna plug to the MAIN port on the modem.
Connect the ethernet cable from LAN port on the modem to the ECOM module in your PLC.
On your modem you should see 3 green lights, the first from the left is power the second WiFi and the third cellular connection. The 4 blue lights indicate signal strength.
- If you do not see 2 to 4 blue signal lights then check your antennas
- If you see the 3rd light blinking red along with the 4 blue lights, make sure the SIM door is closed.
- If you do not see the third light turn solid green in a few minutes then call for support
Apply a daub of silicone sealant to both sides of the pipe coming through the side of your ice house and the electrical panel.
