Navigating the Vision 120/130 PLC

When installing a JustIce ice vending machine with MyVends monitoring, the Vision PLC is upgraded with a new firmware. This article will explain how to navigate the new firmware for the Vision 120/130 PLC and describe its menus.

The Vision 120/130 PLC

The JustIce vending machine is controlled by a Vision PLC. Unlike many other PLCs, the Vision PLC has a built-in interface that allows an owner/technician to make quick changes to their machines' operation (e.g. the tare weight). MyVends is not capable of adjusting some settings that are on the PLC (e.g. most ice maker settings) and it is important to know how to navigate through the PLCs menu.

The Vision PLC
  • Menu List: Pressing the "i" button shows a list of menus (i.e. 1-5 on the key pad).

  • Status Menu: Pressing "1" displays the machine's current status (the default screen)
  • Weight/Temp Menu: Pressing "2" displays the current weight and temperature
  • Setup Menu: Pressing "3" opens a two-part menu with advanced ice maker settings and alarm settings.
  • Tare Weight Menu: Pressing "4" opens a menu to adjust the tare weight for the ice drum.
  • Alarms Menu: Pressing "5" displays any active alarms.

  • Reset Button: "9" on the keypad is reserved for resetting the PLC.
  • Escape: Goes to the previous menu; Cancels an input
  • Enter/Select: Selects/confirms a value
  • Up/Down Keys: Changes the selected value in some menus.

Navigating through the Menus

To navigate to any menu, first press the "i" button, which will display the five menus:

Press "i" to display the menu list

Pressing 1-5 on the keyboard will display their respective menu, as shown above.

#1 - Status

Pressing 1 will display the machine's current status (e.g. current temp and ice weight). This screen is displayed by default.

Status Screen
  • Weight - The current amount of ice (lbs.); see also Tare Weight.
  • Temp - ambient temperature inside the machine
  • The middle of the screen will show the current vending status and any alarms that are triggered, see Alarms.
  • At the bottom is the status of the blocker relay. "Blocker Off" means that the machine has disabled acceptance and vice versa when "Blocker [is] On"

#2 - Weight & Temp

Pressing 2 will display the current amount of ice in the drum and the ambient temperature in large font.

Weight and Temperature screen
  • Weight - the current amount of ice in the bin; which is calculated by taking the total measured weight minus the entered tare weight [the drum weight].
  • Temp - ambient temperature inside the machine.

#3 - Setup

Pressing 3 will display page one of the setup menu. In the two pages, you can change the settings for the various alarms and ice maker run conditions.

Setup Page 1 of 2
  • Weight SP - This has two variables: Low and High. For more information over these variables and how to adjust how much it makes, see our Adjusting a JustIce Ice Maker's Quantity article.
  • Temp SP - How high the ambient temperature (see Weight and Temp) must be in order to trigger the High Temp alarm.
  • Turn Drum Every - How often the drum turns, 12 hours is the recommended value.

Tip! If ice is clumping up in the drum, lower the TURN DRUM EVERY value. If the ice is becoming more of powder, raise the value.

Press #6 for page 2 of the menu...

Setup Page 2 of 2
  • Bag Fault Timer - How long (mins : secs) the bag should be filled until the Bag Full Fault is triggered.
  • Vend Cycle Alarm - There was a failure during the vend cycle.

  • Hopper Timer - How long (mins : secs) the hopper should be until the Hopper Jam Fault is triggered.

#4 - Tare Weight

Tare Weight Screen
  • Tare Weight - This value should be the weight of the drum to obtain an accurate amount of ice. The entered weight cannot exceed the range of 0-4000.
  • Act. Wt. (Actual Weight) - The amount of ice in the drum. Calculated by subtracting the total weight from the aforementioned tare weight. This is value is used for various ice machine conditions and is also shown on the Status Menu.

#5 - Alarms

Pressing 5 will display any triggered alarms. See Setup for adjusting the alarm trigger conditions.

The Alarms Screen
  • Press 9 to reset the alarms and ice maker triggers. If alarm persists, check the physical status of the component in question or the alarm's trigger conditions in the Setup Menu.
